There are so many different types of yarn to choose from nowadays. Here we share some of the different types available so that you can choose the perfect yarn for your new craft project.

1. Wool

First, let’s start with wool. Made from the fleece of sheep, it’s an excellent choice for winter clothing like jumpers, scarves and hats. Wool is a breathable material and also has natural insulating properties. However, wool can be itchy for some people and may require special care when washing to avoid felting

Merino is a particularly fine and soft wool that comes from Merino sheep. It’s known for its incredible softness and warmth. The wool is breathable, moisture-wicking, and comfortable against the skin. DK yarn is often made from a blend of soft Merino.DK yarn is the most popular and versatile yarn weight and has a huge range of colour options.

 2. Alpaca

Alpaca yarn is made from the fleece of the alpaca and is softer and warmer than sheep’s wool. It’s hypoallergenic, so it’s a good choice for those with wool allergies. Yarns made from Alpaca are lightweight and luxurious and are perfect when you need warmth without bulk

3. Cashmere

Cashmere yarn is made from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats and is one of the softest fibres available. It’s incredibly warm and lightweight but can be expensive and requires gentle care to maintain its softness.

4. Angora

Angora yarn is made from the fur of Angora rabbits and is exceptionally soft and fluffy. It has a characteristic halo and is used for lightweight, warm pieces.

5. Acrylic

Acrylic yarn is a synthetic fibre that is affordable and widely available. Unlike some other yarns, it is machine-washable. It doesn’t have the same warmth as wool but is often blended with other fibres such as cotton or wool.

6. Bamboo

Bamboo yarn is made from the pulp of the bamboo plant. It is eco-friendly and soft. It has a silky texture and drapes well. Bamboo is breathable and has natural antibacterial properties too.
