  • Kerb appeal: matching your garage door to your property

If you’re considering fitting a new garage door, you might be wondering what style is the best to complement your property. In the past, many homeowners simply installed generic garage doors, partly because this was the easiest and most affordable option, but partly because there wasn’t always that much variety to choose from. There are far more options on the market today, and thanks to the internet, it’s easier to research different styles and find the perfect match for your home.

The right garage door not only enhances the overall appearance of your home but could actually add value to your property when the time comes to sell. Kerb appeal is hugely important when it comes to selling property and a mismatched garage door will do nothing to win over potential buyers. So, with all that in mind, what style of garage door is best for your property?

    Victorian and Georgian properties

Wooden panelled doors are a safe choice for period homes, and stable or coach house doors work particularly well with older properties. Doors with windows add a classic touch and work even better if you can aim for a similar style of window as those in your home. You can even add period accessories such as original handles and door furniture to complete the look.

If your garage already has wooden front doors in place but they’re looking a little worse for wear, a reputable garage door repairs firm, such as http://garagedoorsrus.co.uk/garage-door-repairs/, might be able to give them a new lease of life.

    Edwardian properties

Edwardian homes tend to feature slightly more flamboyant decoration than those of the preceding eras. As BBC Homes points out, after the dark, drab homes of the Victorian period, the style became much lighter and more fun. The typical Edwardian front doors had raised panels. Try and find a garage door in a similar style to your front door, and, if your new garage door has windows, try to use the same style as your home’s windows.

    Modern properties

Stick to simple, plain, modern garage doors. Match your garage door colour to the colour of your front door and exterior paintwork if applicable. If you have a uPVC front door, look for a garage door finished in a similar style.

  • The Benefits of CCTV Preventative Maintenance for Car and Home

CCTV systems are an important investment for many home and vehicle owners who want to protect their precious property from criminal activity.

Security cameras are prevalent throughout the UK, with over six million used to monitor a wide variety of premises. But as with any solution involving electronics, problems can arise over time which have a negative impact on performance.

If you want to keep your CCTV system working properly for longer, preventative maintenance is essential. Here are some tips and tricks on how to ensure that there are no periods of unplanned downtime during which surveillance is interrupted.

    Sensible Scheduling

It is a good idea to factor maintenance into the cost of installing CCTV when you first buy a system. And rather than booking repair work in a hurry after something goes wrong, it is a much better idea to plan ahead and schedule maintenance work at regular intervals to minimise the likelihood of disaster striking.

This applies for domestic and commercial CCTV set-ups as well as truck camera systems. Many more Brits are buying car and truck camera systems, both to protect their vehicle while it is parked and to capture footage while they are behind the wheel for safety and insurance purposes.

Basic testing of a CCTV system will involve checking that every element is still working while it is in situ, meaning that most maintenance visits will be brief and inexpensive. Professionals will be able to establish if any problems are looming on the horizon and give you the option to nip them in the bud sooner rather than later.

    Parts Procurement

Another important reason to carry out preventative maintenance on home and car CCTV systems is that if repairs or replacements are necessary, you will not need to wait for an extended period for the right parts to arrive. Instead, this can be considered ahead of time so that the specialists arrive with all that they need to carry out the work in hand.

Security cameras are not just about catching criminals in the act and providing video evidence of their misdeeds: they are also useful as a deterrent. So having a fully functional and visibly operational set-up in place will be just as important when it comes to preventing crimes before they occur.

  • A Beginner’s Guide to Ten-Pin Bowling

Enjoyed worldwide, ten-pin bowling, or often just ‘bowling’, is a family-friendly sport which can be played both for both leisure and professionally. Whilst the rules of the game are relatively simple, that certainly doesn’t mean the game itself is easy. Read on for some basic tips on ten-pin bowling and how to master it.

    A Brief History of Bowling

Whilst the first modern indoor bowling alley in recent history was recorded as opening in 1840 (back when the game was played only with nine pins), historians have actually traced ten-pin bowling all the way back to 5200 BC in Ancient Egypt. Early version of the game have been enjoyed for thousands of years by varying cultures, showing just how entertaining the sport is.

    The Rules

You probably already know the basic gist of bowling: you throw the bowling ball down the lane towards ten pins lined at the end. The idea is to knock as many down as possible with two bowls. Each pin is worth one point, and managing to knock all of them down will earn you extra points. Whilst it may seem difficult, it’s certainly not impossible, with professionals clamouring to set new times completing perfect games.

Games can be played using equipment generally available at the alley itself, including two barriers on either side of the gutters designed to prevent a ‘gutter-ball’ – a common plight for beginners trying their hand at the game, where the ball doesn’t quite make it to the pins. This means you can easily tailor your game to suit your skill.

    Equipment

As with most sports, equipment is available to improve your game. This can be anything from your own ball to bowling aids. In the game of bowling wrist support is very important to factor into your gameplay; and for this reason many bowlers choose to invest in professionally manufactured wrist supports. Companies such as http://www.petesproshop.co.uk/acatalog/wrist-supports.htm offer a wide range of gloves and adjustable supports to suit bowlers of all shapes and sizes.

    How Do I Play?

Bowling alleys can be found all over the country. Whether they’re larger companies or independently owned lanes, a quick online check will show you where you can have a go yourself. So whether you’re playing solo, with family with or a group of friends, get down to your local alley today.

  • Scottish parents under fire for children’s oral health

The widespread availability of sugar-laden products and the lack of regular brushing being enforced are both partly to blame for staggering rates of decay. According to one dentist, parents in Scotland need to do more to ensure their children’s oral health is maintained.

    What Has Been Said

Paediatric dentist Professor Nicola Innes has blasted parents in Scotland and urged them to take more responsibility in an attempt to address the levels of decay in children’s teeth in Scotland. She notes that while the most deprived children are the hardest hit, parents of all children need to pay more attention to sugar reduction and what they’re eating and to oversee more regular brushing.

The State of Oral Health in Scotland

Scotland is still behind other developed countries when it comes to children’s oral health. Although government statistics suggest that the rate of Primary 1 children showing no overt signs of decay has increased, only 55% of five-year-old children from deprived areas in Scotland are decay-free, compared to 75% in England.

    Causes of the Decay

Sugar is a primary culprit in tooth decay, both in terms of food and sugary drinks. Constant grazing on such food prevents the ability of the teeth and mouth to recover when plaque and acid form, and tooth enamel is consequently also weakened. Missed or inadequate brushing of teeth on a daily basis, which should be supervised for young children, is another important factor.

    What Can Be Done

Tackling the challenge of oral health is an issue that should be a collaborative effort between dentists, parents and school staff. The Scottish scheme, Childsmile, provides all nursery children supervised brushing for free on a daily basis.

Ensuring regular check-ups is vital. Some dentists emphasise a welcoming environment that feels less threatening for children, such as the general dentistry in Leicester practised by http://www.sjrdental.co.uk/.

Childsmile advises that what and when children eat every day can be vital to oral health. Less sugar in the diet, tap water and unflavoured milk for drinks, and supervised brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste are all recommended. Parents are urged to take responsibility for what they give their children to eat and drink, for monitoring their brushing and for making sure dental check-ups are carried out.

  • Wedding Customs And Superstitions

There are so many things that could potentially go wrong on a wedding day, or within a marriage, that naturally many superstitions and customs have developed throughout the years to help ensure a long and happy marriage.

Some traditions and superstitions have died out over time but some still remain strongly in place such as the bride throwing her bouquet into a group of her single female friends and whoever catches it will be next to marry. Another tradition is ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ in order to bring luck to the marriage.

    Customs

In Scotland it is traditional to have a ‘scramble’ where the bride’s father will throw coins out on the ground for the children present to search for as the bride gets into her car after the ceremony. This is to signify a metaphorical sharing of the wealth and to bring prosperity and happiness to the children and their future lives.

Have you ever wondered why it is traditional to kiss the bride at the end of the marriage vows? This custom derives from Roman times where a kiss was actually legally binding and so seals the wedding according to law.

Wedding favours are another custom which has survived throughout the ages and is still popular in many cultures. In Spain traditional wedding favours will be distributed by the bride and groom to their guests. The male guests are given small bottles of alcohol and the female guests are usually given toiletries.

    Superstitions

In the past in Britain it was thought to be very unlucky for a woman to marry a man whose surname began with the same letter as hers, thankfully this superstition has now died out.

Bad weather on a wedding day is also thought to bring bad luck, signifying tough times ahead for the couple. Although in some cultures, mainly Hindu, it is believed to be good luck if it rains on a wedding day and will bring happiness to the couple.

On the other hand, good weather, especially the sun shining during the bride’s journey to the church or the bride seeing a rainbow on the way to the church is thought to bring happiness and success for the coming marriage.

Traditionally in Britain chimney sweeps were meant to bring a lot of luck to a wedding, so much so that many couples often invited chimney sweeps to the ceremony in order to bring them luck and success.

Another superstition which has now died out through time is that in previous years it was thought to be bad luck to get married on a Saturday, yet in today’s society it is possibly the most popular day to get married as it is more convenient given people’s busy working lives.

Whether you believe in superstitions like the ones listed above or not, the most important thing is to make sure you enjoy your special day and look forward to the life that you and your spouse will share together and remember, as Ernest Hemingway once said- “you make your own luck.”

  • Tips and Tricks To Increase Internet Marketing Success

Internet marketing is a technique used by many businesses and individuals to sell their products and services. Article marketing is a great way to increase traffic to your site. Apply the advice from this article to help you on your way to success with internet marketing.

Use short-term promos to boost your PageRank on the eCommerce site. You will end up essentially buying a better PageRank, as other sites, such as deal collection sites and consumer watch sites, will link back to you. This is like a brick-and-mortar store drawing in customers with an item that will lose them money initially, but drive sales in other departments.

If you want people to affiliate themselves with you, make a button they can put on their site that is very appealing. The easier it is to link to your site, the higher the number of people who will be willing to do it. Not only does this put your site in front of more potential viewers, it also improves your search engine performance.

Your website tag should very clearly define your business. Since this is the heading of your page, it is the first impression visitors have of your site. Poorly written website tags don’t convey the message that you need to send to draw and keep the reader’s attention.

In order to persuade your visitors to purchase a product, refer them to a page that will show them content concerning the product an example would be a video. This helps them feel a bit more informed prior to purchasing anything. They will feel less pressured to buy something they are unsure of and will appreciate that you cared enough to give them the choice.

Make sure that all images placed on your site include captions. As the search engine spiders crawl around looking for things to grab to pull to the surface, your text captions might just help your site rankings out in a big way. Your traffic and search engine ranking will increase if you make your site keyword rich, including the image captions and post titles.

  • What is a Business Credit Asset and why is it important to your business?

A Business Credit Asset is one of the most important concepts that every business owner needs to understand.  It represents an asset that you can build your business that increases the likelihood that your business will survive and thrive and will have a greater value.

A Business Credit Asset starts with your business entity having its own strong business credit scores with the three top national business credit reporting agencies.

It is making sure that the credit lines which are used by your business entity are reported only on the business credit reports and not reflected as being tied to the business owners personally. But it is also more than just that.

The starting point for a Business Credit Asset is the business owners taking the time and effort to establish a business entity, either a corporation or an LLC.  While other forms of doing business such as partnerships or sole proprietors can build business credit scores, they cannot create a Business Credit Asset. Why is that? Business credit scores that are built under any form of business which is not a separate entity can only be used by that business owner personally. They cannot be transferred in any ownership change because all the debt is tied directly to the owners personally rather than to the separate entity.

After the business entity has been formed, the next step is making sure that business the entity is listed, the right way, with all the National Business Credit Reporting Agencies; Experian Business Information Services, Dun & Bradstreet, and the Equifax Small Business Financial Exchange.

Once that is done than having the business entity build strong business credit scores that are 100% separate from the business owners, and tied only to the business entity, creates an asset that can then be used to secure larger lines of credit, equipment leases, office leases, vehicle financing, credit cards, and business loans which are in the name of the business only and do not show up on personal credit reports.

Probably the best feature to a Business Credit Asset is that it is fully transferable with the business. This means when the business owners choose to transfer ownership or sell the business entity, the business’s debt and its Business Credit Asset can be transferred to the new owners clearly and transparently. This can greatly increase the attractiveness of the business for a sale and can mean that the business is worth more, to a larger pool of buyers.

Having a Business Credit Asset in place can also mean receiving more cash from the business sale because the owners may not need to carry back financing. Here’s why, the new owner will not have to spend time and resources building their own Business Credit Asset, that will have already been done for them. For many businesses, the value of a Business Credit Asset can be worth 100’s of thousands of
    dollars.

In these economic times it’s not just lenders who are studying every business closely. More people than ever are taking a hard look at a business before they award that new contract, lease the business an office or storage space, or extend any type of financing to the business.

In the United States, vendor credit makes up the majority of all business lending. Vendors will check the business entity’s credit before they agree to extend net 30-day payment terms. There are tens of thousands of companies that will extend a vendor line of credit to other businesses, but in the case where the business entity has not developed a Business Credit Asset, then those vendor credit lines will be based on the personal credit of the owners and it will be the owners who are required to personal secure the debt.

Lenders are now extending credit based on business credit scores. SBA lenders use it as a final approval factor, and if your business is approved, it will be your business credit scores that determine the amount of the loan that the business will receive.

Many business credit cards now require seeing at least 10 reporting tradelines on your business credit reports with at least one reporting a credit line of $10,000 or more before they will consider extending the business entity a credit card which is not tied directly to the personal credit of the business owners.

The term “trade-line” refers to any credit provider which extends credit to the business entity and then reports the credit terms and payment history to the business credit agency. Typical tradelines are leasing companies, vehicle financing, vendor lines of credit, gas fleet business credit cards, business credit cards from stores (Staples, Home Depot, etc.), and business financing from hi-tech companies (Dell, Cisco, Microsoft, HP, etc.)

Building and maintaining a Business Credit Asset is very much like building and maintaining your personal credit. Your business entity will need to get approved for at least 10 reporting tradelines, use those tradelines month in and month out and pay them each on time. Then you will need to monitor the business credit scores just like you monitor your personal credit scores.

A Business Credit Asset is an extremely valuable and useful tool for your business, but it is also one that you must pay careful attention to if you want it to be there where and when you need it most.

It is reported that in the United States today that only 30% or all businesses are operating as a separate entity and 85% of those have 3 or less reporting tradelines. So as it exists today there is only a small fraction of businesses who have built a Business Credit Asset. They do however turn out to be in the top 10% of those businesses which are successful.

  • Building business credit for business owners

Are you a business owner or entrepreneur and still have not separated your personal credit from your business credit? If so, you may find yourself in the same category as most business owners, not quite sure how to build business credit!

Most businesses want to be able to borrow money when they need it, without the owners having to personally guarantee the loans. This means less risk to the owners. Hoping to get a business loan without a personal guarantee is one thing and actually obtaining it is quite another.

The solution is to understand what business credit is and why every business owner should build it. By building business credit every business owner is able to separate business debt and liability from their personal debt and liability. Most importantly, by building business credit a business owner is able to obtain a larger amount of business financing at better interest rates.

Before a business owner rushes out in a frantic search of business credit, one must understand that there are no laws protecting business owners from the business credit bureaus! It is imperative to know how to set up business credit properly, but most importantly what to do prior to setting up business credit and in what order to proceed. The reason this is so important is, like personal credit, where someone has the right to dispute in inaccurate information, by law the personal credit bureaus must respond within a certain time period. If a business owners business credit is inaccurate or set up improperly, the business owner does not have such protection to dispute inaccurate information.

Make sure that you meet all business credit criteria prior to setting up business credit and before applying for any type of business lending. A business credit profile can be established for a common C- Corporation, S- Corporation or LLC. Don’t bother trying to build business credit to a Sole Proprietor, as most Sole Proprietors are based on the business owners social security number and not a tax id number.

Once the business credit is built then the business owner can apply for business financing on obtain credit without personal credit checks or personal guarantees! The stronger and stronger business credit the owner builds the better financing the business is able to obtain.

There will come a time, if not already, that every business owner will need additional financing. If you have taken the responsibility of separating business credit from personal credit then your business will flourish as you will have all the business financing that you need.

Do yourself a favor and start building business credit the right way so when your business needs financing you know where to go to obtain it!

  • Top Facts About Nike

Nike has been around for more than five decades and is one of the world’s best-known sports brands. Yet, despite this fame, there are probably quite a few facts you didn’t know about Nike – until now!

    Starting Line

Nike was originally founded in 1964 but had the name of Blue Ribbon Sports and was a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger, the Japanese shoemaker which now goes by the name of Asics. It was in 1971 that the company became Nike Inc.

The company was started by athletics coach Bill Bowerman and Portland middle-distance runner Phil Knight. When it was founded, the business had only $1,200 in its bank account. Jeff Johnson, Nike’s first ever employee, suggested the name Nike in reference to the Greek goddess of victory.

    Breakfast Revelation

The first ever Nike shoes were conceived in 1971, when Bowerman was making waffles for breakfast with his wife. They were created using a waffle iron after their creator had the idea of putting grooves on the bottom to give athletes added grip on the track. The Nike Waffle Trainer was patented in 1974.

    Logo is Born

The famous Nike tick or swoosh, now a major feature on everything from baseball caps to Nike football kits, was devised by Carolyn Davidson, a student at Portland State University. She was originally paid just $35, the equivalent of a little over $200 today. She was later given stock now valued at more than $640,000.

    A Bad Example

Nike’s iconic ‘Just Do It’ slogan was inspired by a serial killer, according to revelations made in a documentary in 2009. Murderer Gary Gilmore’s execution in 1977 was preceded by him saying ‘let’s do it’, sparking the now-famous slogan.

    Endorsement Deals

Ilie Nastase, the Romanian tennis player, signed the first Nike endorsement contract in 1972. Today, many of the Nike products sold by suppliers such as https://www.kitking.co.uk are endorsed by famous people.

    Revolutionary Advert

Nike’s Air Max ad in 1987 was accompanied by a Beatles’ soundtrack. The use of the Revolution track marked the first time that a song by the hit band had been used in a television commercial.

    Living Large in London

Surprisingly, the biggest Nike shop is not located in the company’s US homeland. It is in fact the £10.5 million store in Oxford Street, London, which spans around 42,000 feet over three levels.
