  • Why do some people not get tested for STIs?

Despite high-profile media campaigns, screening events and clinics – STIs are still a major problem and show no signs of abating. The majority are easily cured with antibiotics, so why are there still so many infections occurring? Unfortunately, many people don’t get cured because they don’t know they need treatment. Often STIs can lurk for some time before showing any symptoms at all. Here are some reasons why so many people fail to get themselves tested:

    Education

The standards of education vary hugely depending on where you are in the world. If you don’t know the risks, then how can you protect yourself from them. In developed countries, HIV information is widespread, but gonorrhoea and chlamydia facts not so clear. Some countries teach a thorough sex education curriculum, whilst others won’t educate about STIs at all.

For older people, their sex education was likely received in a time when it was not spoken about much and there was a lot of misinformation bandied about. STIs are on the increase amongst the older generation too, who are starting new relationships now their children are grown, or spouses have died.

    Inconvenience

Another reason for people not to get tested is the inconvenience of finding time to visit a sexual health clinic. Perhaps it’s difficult getting time off work to visit the doctor when you don’t look sick. A positive result means a return trip as well to receive treatment. A lot of people would rather bury their head in the sand and hope the problem goes away by itself. However, these days it’s possible to test yourself in the privacy and convenience of your own home. Find out about a home STI test Greenwich at https://www.checkurself.org.uk/plus/

    Confidentiality

Confidentiality is also a major concern for those worried about their sexual health. Sexual relations are intimate and private, despite the sexual revolution, most of us would prefer it to stay that way. No matter how much it seems silly, there is still much stigma surrounding fun sex and enjoyment. There aren’t many people who would happily and openly chat about STIs with their friends or colleagues. Opening up to a doctor or healthcare professional and the fear of being judged puts many people off.

    Symptoms

Another major reason for people not getting checked out is a lack of visible symptoms. Some common infections can remain symptomless, such as chlamydia. Sometimes any symptoms that do present will clear up, leaving the person believing all is well when in fact the infection remains. These infections can linger for a long time and often cause problems in new relationship when couples stop using condoms because they are now in a committed monogamous relationship. STIs that appear now are going to look like infidelity.

It might feel like an invasion of privacy or the height of inconvenience but getting tested is so important for not building up potential health problems further on in life. Whether you’ve experienced symptoms or not, regular testing will keep you on top of your sexual health and staying well for longer – which is also great for anyone sleeping with you too!

  • How to successfully pack electronics for sending by courier

Electronics such as smartphones, tablets and e-readers make fantastic gifts. If you are posting the electronics, you should make sure you send them correctly, as sending electronics carelessly can result in expensive damage and leave the recipient very disappointed.

Here are three tips to help you successfully pack electronics for sending by courier.

    Protect the batteries

It is important to protect lithium-ion batteries from temperature changes and air pressure changes, both of which can damage batteries. For this reason, you should make sure that you switch off all electronic devices before you send them and ensure that the electronics are packaged properly. If they are still in the original packaging, this should be fine; if not, you may want to put the device back in its packaging for shipping, if you still have it, as the original packaging will be designed for safe postage.

    Use professionals

If you are short of time, you can use professionals to ship your goods for you; for example, UPS store certified packing experts will help you to properly package your electronic goods. Most post offices will also help you to package your items. This will ensure the package makes it safely to its next destination!

If you are looking for a same day courier service in Manchester that can help you to post your item, check out services such as http://allaboutfreight.co.uk/same-day-courier-service/same-day-courier-manchester.

    Use the right packing method

If you are sending electronic goods and are packaging them yourself, it is important to make sure that you package them properly. Many people use the double (over) boxing method for shipping fragile electronics, which is putting a box within a box. This means the item is less likely to be damaged by impact, with the extra padding also helping to absorb any vibrations and bumps while in transit.

You may also want to fill the package with bubble wrap or foam inserts to make sure it is extra secure. You should avoid using packing peanuts, however, as this can create static electricity that could damage the device.

Thousands of electronic items are sent around the globe every day, so you don’t need to worry too much about your item being broken or damaged. Just make sure that you package the item properly and you should have no problems!

  • How to Choose a Pressure Washer

In certain industries a pressure washer is an essential item, such as the automotive, fisheries or marine sectors. Pressure washers are actually also useful for less industrialized businesses and even households, which can use them to keep the outdoor of the home, garden or yard in tip-top condition. But with so many to choose from, what are the main considerations you need to make before buying a pressure washer?

    Petrol vs. Electric

Pressure washers are available to buy powered by either petrol or electricity. Electric washers need to be plugged in and are therefore more suitable for when the washing will take place in one area, such as your decking, whereas petrol-powered pressure washers are far more mobile, so they are perfect for moving around larger items such as a large boat. Petrol-powered pressure washers tend to be available with much higher power outputs than electric ones, making them ideal for serious dirt and grime.

    Storage Space

Large pressure washers take up a lot of space, so make sure you have the room to store one. It needs to be prepared properly for winter storage and also needs to be kept secure so that it cannot be stolen. Consider adding the pressure washer on to your home or business insurance.

    Home or Commercial

Those looking for a pressure washer to clean a small boat or garden area will be fine with a small electric pressure washer from a local hardware store. These have power outputs of around 1400 W – 2100 W. Those in need of serious pressure washers for their business operations in the marine or fisheries sector will need to consider a more specialist outlet or manufacturer that sells a petrol washer, as explained above. Petrol-powered washers are more suitable for intense industrial cleaning, as they have engines with capacities of up to 420 cc. Look out for established names such as Briggs ad Stratton, who will also be able to sell you replacement engine parts should you need them. Briggs and Stratton parts can be found at https://diyengineparts.com/Brand/1/briggs-and-stratton.

Before you buy a pressure washer, consider how often you will use it and what you need it for. Also consider your budget, but remember that cheap pressure washers are often a poor economical choice, as they are not as robust as petrol-engine washers.

  • Getting a flat roof for you garage or extension is a good idea

I’ve been looking into having some work done to my house. Like most people I’m a bit pushed for space and I would love to have an extension put on the side of my house so that I can get a bit more living space. I know the design and everything but I’m not sure as to what I can do about the roof. What I’ve done is look at the options of a flat roof and this flat roofing Gloucester based company could provide me with the installation. There at http://premiertradespeople.co.uk/trade-services-gloucester/roofing/  and after I’ve told you about what I’ve learned you might want to give that link a click.

The first thing that I wanted to know about was cost. It turns out that a pitched roof, an angled one like you see on traditional roofs can be really expensive. It’s not like they look that good against my house. They take ages to put together and you have to get a specialist roofer and tiler in to get them installed. As soon as I hear the word specialist I know that means more money.

It’s not like it’s actually a flat roof anyway. You can’t have a completely flat roof because with all the rain we get that roof would be a lake by Christmas. It needs to be a little bit sloped; it only takes a few degrees up one end for it to work. I’m planning to link it to a water butt so I can use it on my tomatoes as they love rain water. One of the most exciting things about having a flat roof that got me thinking was I could knock through my bedroom wall and put in an exterior door leading out on to it and hey presto, I’ve got a balcony. I’ve always wanted a balcony. Be a nice spot for my tomatoes.

Another thing that sold me on the flat roof was just how cheaper it was than the pitched roof. All they have to do is bring in the sections of it all nice and horizontal and then secure it to the ceiling joists I’m having put in. It really is that simple. I’m also really glad that they now have an improved membrane put on otherwise I wouldn’t be bothering. In the old days they just used put down a thin layer of broken up stone and rock then lay some of that shed felt on top of it and have done with it.

Well that’s my experience of it.

  • 5 Hot Wearable Spring Fashion Trends for 2018

There are so many things that are wonderful about the spring season. The weather is warmer. The flowers are in bloom. And, it’s also when you can finally pack up your winter coats and wool sweaters and start enjoying all of the new springtime trends.

If you’re planning to head out to the mall in the next couple of days and you’re curious to know about what’s truly hot in spring fashion this year, then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got a list of five springtime looks that will have you looking like you just walked off of a high-fashion runway below:

Pastel hues. One particular trend that really should not be much of a surprise are pastel hues. We say this because they are the perfect palate for the springtime season. So, if you’re someone who really enjoys mint greens, light blues or baby pinks, anything that you pick up in those colors will have you looking very fashion-forward.

Wide-leg pants. If you have a set of wide-leg trousers that have been sitting up in your closet or attic for the past couple of years, take them out and put them in the cleaners because this would be the time to put them back on. And one of the best things about this particular trend is that it’s complementary on just about any body type.

Tea-length skirts. Another big trend for this spring is a pretty modest one. We say that because rather than wearing mini-skirt or even knee-length skirts this year, it’s actually more fashionable to put on a tea-length one. The fun thing about these is that you can wear them with so many things from T-shirt and tank tops to a blazer or jean jacket. They will have you looking effortlessly romantic all season long.

Tuxedo athletic pants. There’s another trend that we find to be really fresh-looking and also pretty modern at the same time. It’s the tuxedo athletic pant. Basically, these are pants that are made out fabrics like cotton or a nylon blend that have a bold line running down the seam. These are a cool thing to wear if you’re planning to go to a place like an outdoor concert because they are dressy enough for the occasion but comfortable enough to sit on the lawn or in a chair.

Sweaters. If you were to go on a website while looking for a bit of street style for this spring, something that you might see are sweaters. Now, these aren’t the heavy kind that you tend to wear at Christmas. These are actually sweaters that are made out of a light knit fabric. They’re awesome because you can use them to dress up or down an outfit. For instance, you can wear a sweater dress to the office or a church event or you can wear a sleeveless sweater with a pair of jeans while you’re on a date. The other awesome thing about this particular trend is that you can find sweaters everywhere from the department store at the mall to your local thrift store. So, make sure that you stock up on a few of them. Enjoy the spring and all of the fashion that it has to offer!

  • 5 Home Window Insulation Tips for Winter

Having a great view from your windows is the pride of any homeowner – it can also be a joy to wake up and see the world in all its beautiful glory – but your windows can also be a source of resentment too, especially in the winter. Yes, our windows are important, but they are often made of thin glass that doesn’t properly protect your home from the unbearable cold outside. This is the reason why making sure your windows are insulated is so important. By sealing your windows, you may also learn how air sealing and insulation help cut winter heating bills, which is another added bonus. Here are five home window insulation tips for winter.

    1. Use window insulation film. This method is quick, easy and affordable. By placing a thin sheet of film on your windows, you can add a whole new protective layer to your windows. Plus, installing the film is as easy as placing it on and then using a hair dryer to spread it thin. The only downside is that it can cloud up your windows and make them look dirty, but if you place them on properly – you may not be able to notice.
    2. Add an extra curtain to your windows. If you already have curtains on your windows, but they don’t seem to be doing much, you may want to add another layer of curtains. When it comes down to it, adding another layer of curtains will make sure that the cold chill doesn’t make its way inside your home. The only problem with an extra layer of curtains is that it can be slightly expensive and you’ll probably have to take them down in the summer. However, they will certainly do the trick during the cold months.
    3. Add rubber stripping in window casements. When it comes down to it, much of the air that leaks through your windows comes through the casements, which is the area between the moveable part of the window and the window frame. With a layer of adhesive rubber, you can effectively create a better seal, so the cold air doesn’t make its way through. Not only that, but the rubber stripping will also make sure that warm air doesn’t escape.
    4. Use some kind of fabric or long pillow to block the drafts. When it comes down to it, the easiest and most effective way to insulate your windows is to place some kind of fabric or pillow at the foot of your windows. This will effectively block the cold air and the draft. In fact, some people call this contraption a “draft snake” and it can do a wonderful job at sealing your home and making it more energy retentive.
    5. Reseal the casings. When it comes down to it, your windows may simply need a new layer of caulking. Adding new caulk to your windows is easy and it can do a great job of insulating your windows. Overtime, caulking can come lose and it can cause your windows to be less energy efficient. With a new layer of caulking, you will notice a marked difference.

  • Montessori Learning Aids

Developed by Maria Montessori an Italian Physician and Educator the Montessori method of teaching which is estimated to be practiced in 20,000 schools around the world. In theory Montessori education is applicable to anyone from birth to 18 years old but more often than not in the UK Montessori pupils will likely be between 2 – 6 years old.

When teaching via the Montessori method you have to have the correct equipment otherwise you cannot execute the method effectively. The market is quite good for Montessori learning aids however recently some poorer quality learning aids are now being manufactured and distributed.

Montessori Learning Aids are aimed towards children’s development skills and life skills. There are a number different areas of learning which children need to progress through and the Montessori learning aids help children achieve this. Montessori learning aids are often very fun for children to play with, making it easier to teach and for children to learn without ‘getting bored’ too easily.

The different types of Montessori learning aids are shown below: –

    • Botany – Includes learning aids such as, puzzles (animals, trees, flowers etc). There is a wide selection of Botany learning aids available.
    • Geography – Includes globes of the earth, land and water, flag stands, large colourful maps, puzzle maps (UK, Africa, USA and Australia etc), information sheets and so on.
    • Life Skills / Practical Life – Includes button frames, Velcro frames, and zipping frame etc for practical life skill lessons.
    • Language – Helps to aid children with their English language skills, both reading and writing. There are movable alphabets, large letter cards (made from sand paper) and  inset paper.
    • Sensorial – includes Geometric solids, towers/tower blocks, mystery shapes, sand trays, bell sets and sound boxes.
    • Mathematics – includes addition boards, bead bars, wooden cubes, snake games, bead chains, binomial cubes & laminated large number cards.
    • Miscellaneous – There are some learning aids which don’t quite fit in with a particular subject but are still really valuable in the education process such as, fraction circles, matching board shapes, large and small pegs boards.

There are several key areas when it comes to children and their learning skills with many facilities and learning aids available.

If you operate a Montessori School then ensuring your pupils have only the best possible learning aids to work with will without doubt be a huge priority for you so as mentioned before be sure assess the quality of potential products as some poorer items are now on the market.

  • Health Benefits Of Cycling

Most people know that cycling is very good for your heart and your fitness levels. So, to what extent does cycling make you fitter and how much cycling should you do? Many people that cycle rarely or occasionally should perhaps think about ‘doing more’ as part of their new years resolution. Very few people do enough cycling and could quite easily fit a bit more into their weekly, monthly and yearly routines.

What Extent Does Cycling Make You Fitter?

Cycling for some though is just not an option as some people simply do not like or want to try cycling, but regardless of individual motivation the fact remains that cycling does make you a lot fitter in many ways and builds your stamina to a very good level (if you are a regular cyclist). Many people that do not cycle often think that they can not do it as they expect results overnight and do not get to feel the full benefit of cycling regularly.

Just look at what cycling can do for you: –

    • Healthier Heart – the most important muscle in your body will become stronger and healthier
    • Toning of muscles, including buttocks, hamstrings, thighs, stomach and upper body
    • Lose weight effectively and safely
    • Help s with your metabolism if you happen to have a very slow one
    • Reduce Stress – exercise is very good for stress relief and will help you to lead a healthier stable life

How Much Cycling Should You Do?

Sometimes this depends on your lifestyle, commitments and current fitness levels. If for example you have low fitness levels and want to build that up, you need to do this overtime and be patient, but stay motivated with cycling. Try plan a route that is not too hilly or too vigorous; most adult beginners should aim for 30 minutes – 1 hour per week.

If you are relatively fit and go to the gym fairly often, you should be able to start by doing 1.5 – 3 hours per week. Again do not exceed to begin with, as you can over do exercise and can in turn harm your health and/or your muscles. • Safety Tips For Having A Fireworks Displays At Home

Holding a personal fireworks display is exciting, especially if you have young children in your house or are celebrating a special occasion. Naturally, one major component to get your head around is the safety aspect of having a home display. We looked at some of the most important factors to consider, and how to action a safe home fireworks demonstration.

    Buying and Storage
Ensure that you only buy your fireworks from a licenced, trusted, and respected retailer. It can be tempting to buy them from Tommy who lives up the road, usually due to the cost being less. However, you can’t buy safety, so stick to somewhere that you are happy sells safe, legitimate fireworks that have been safety tested.

Store your fireworks in a dry location where they are not going to be exposed to sparks or, near anything flammable. This means the garden shed or outhouse, never store them in your home itself, just in case. Cover them in a watertight, airtight container – the box they come in should satisfy this – with a flameproof sheet.

    Show Time
When the time comes to hold your display, it can be difficult to contain the excitement of everyone in your home. Adhere to these safety tips to ensure everyone has an enjoyable evening.

    · Designate a section of your garden to light the fireworks from, and mark it out clearly. Also, mark out a line so people are clear where they can and cannot stand. Ensure only one person is responsible for the lighting of fireworks, and that they take charge of the whole of this process.
    · Identify the direction you will aim your fireworks. Ideally, this will be into a field or other open space. Firing them straight up leaves the possibility of hot components falling onto your garden. At the same time, be careful you aren’t lighting fireworks to explode above other peoples’ homes, gardens, or play areas. Consideration of others is key.
    · Transport the fireworks and set them up prior to the display, following the product guidelines around safe distances between them.
    · For lighting the fireworks, ensure are wearing a flameproof suit, gloves, goggles, and a safety hat. Use portfires or another recommended method of lighting each firework, and step away as soon as it is lit.
    · Never return to a lit firework.
    · After your display, if any fireworks haven’t exploded, immerse them in water for 48 hours, to ensure they are ‘dead,’ before disposing of them.
Following these guidelines are simple and straightforward, and will allow you to have a safe and hugely enjoyable home fireworks display.
